This is a bold and brash offering that is a great example of hard core Hip Hop too shake the masses. Both Killer Mike and El-P, who make up Run The Jewels, have done well to carry the momentum from their first great success into another project that is hard hitting and bound to be as much of a success as their last.
The lyricism is definitely present on every track and will help to draw in the crowds of Hip Hop fans who enjoy wordplay in songs. Both Killer Mike and El-P flex what they have in the lyrics department and it makes for a potent combo when it feels like they are passing the mic between them for who can be the most lyrical.
The production is fantastic by being in your face and blending the together so well that the project is easy to listen to the whole way through, even if it does feel like its trying to jump down your throat half the time. Full of unusual sounds and high tempo beats, this project is not smooth listening by any means but it is an enjoyable listen.
The features are good as they combine well with what Run The Jewels do and sound like on the track, while also promoting their own abilities. While they may not be the most well known people to feature on the album, they are good choices that don’t take anything away from the project.
Overall, this is a great album for Hip Hop lovers and is also a good introduction to the hardcore side of things for newer listeners as it is such a great example of what a top notch project sounds like. Run The Jewels should be proud of making a project that is living up to the high standards they set with their first album.
