Talib Kweli And 9th Wonder – Indie 500 Review

This album is great for those who enjoy a slightly more laid back and thoughtful project to listen to. While there are some more pumped up moments, this project is great for provoking thoughts with powerful images.

The production is smooth with no moments that sound out of place or forced. 9th Wonder puts hins signiture style all over this with the more melodic beats instead of relying on heavy bass. Maybe more of a balance between the higher energy and the deeper thinking could have made a project aimed at a larger audiance but there is no doubt that what is selected for this is effective.

The lyricism is great with its imagery and ability to settle in the listeners brain. Talib Kweli does a great job showing how he can work his complex lyrics into understandable messages that all can ponder over. Some more songs aimed at energizing the listener could have helped make this a more universal album, but that may have defeated the purpose of such a project.

The features all do a great job of fleshing out this project with different view points on the situations provided. Each puts in a lot of effort to tkeep thier verses interesting and competing with the others for most poignant verse. There are no real issues with the guest selection here, but maybe some more singing features could have added a few more interesting moments.

Overall, this album is great to sit through if you want something relaxing or somehting to think over. Both Talib Kweli and 9th Wonder do a great job on thier seperate parts that come together to make a great project.
