Demrick – Came A Long Way Review

This release shows some personal growth from Demrick, as an artist and a person. There are comparative points of high life living, but it is mostly an exploration of a deeper self.

The production has a timeless feel, with a feeling of opening up the listener so they are ready to receive the emotional content. None of the beats override the lyrics which helps the artist stay the focus point of the music, but would feel empty without the rappers input. Maybe something with a little more strength and body could make a tougher feeling album, although that is not the point of this release so the selection still works well.

The lyricism is strong as Demrick builds upon his foundation of clever wordplay. He makes more use of his singing tones, as well as a few more special effects, to great affect on these tracks which helps to give them more dimension. Maybe a little more variation of flow could create a few more interesting moments, but there is no doubt that Demrick has a strong performance on this album.

The features are good and help add ot the stories told on the songs they are on. However the project is not particularly long and they do take valuable time from the main artist. While the balance between rapping and singing is very delicate, this project does strike that balance very well which helps keep the project flowing.

Overall, this is a good release for Demrick to keep his career moving. While people who have been following him might see how he has moved forward, this album does not possess the wow power to bring in a lot of new listeners, but there are still high hopes for the future as This is still quality music.
