AD – Regional Departure Review

This release shows a willingness for AD to expand beyond his local territory. This is a great project that proves that AD is a talent to stay.

The production is smooth and expansive. Each beat leaves a lot of room for the artists on it to flex their skills and lets the flavour of the artists add to the backings. Maybe a few more songs with a few different influences could show a little more growth, but AD has a strong selection here.

The lyricism is not overly complicated but has a lot of impact with the delivery. AD does well to pick strong production that accentuates his performance. He has good wordplay, but a little more complexity would not go amiss.

The features all help to keep this project rolling smoothly on. They all show talent in their ability and keep this release being cohesive. A few more singers might give this another edge to praise, but the guests on this are a solid group.

Overall, AD should be very happy with this as it is another stepping stone to greater success. This should make more listeners take notice of the west coast rhymer and appreciate his skills.

Straight Outta Compton Film Review

While this is not the usual review that goes up on here, this film is very important to the culture and how Hip Hop has evolved over time.

This movie is extremely emotive and shows a lot of hardships that the group had to go through for what they believed. It covers everything from the formation of the group to the aftermath of Eazy-E’s death. It shows the obstacles that each individual has to overcome and on top of that, it shows the struggles of every day life as a young black man in America at the time.

The cinematography is amazing and makes the scenes very vivid and makes the whole thing seem much more personnal to the watcher. The casting and acting is fantastic which helps the movie seem serious and give the impression of watching the actual events.

The messages come across loud and clear to help bring the issues of the time back to mind and show how there is still a lot of room for change. It shows how different people were treated so outragously based on things like the colour of thier skin or other such things. Bringing this back to the forefront of people’s mind shows that a lot of things still need to change, especially when taking into account the controversy surrounding the police and other law enforcement.

There are a lot of iconic scenes in the movie, both from NWA and America at the time. Some are of great moments and other of much lower points. All are important to what happened to the group as well as how events unfolded in the country around them.

The music is of course as near to perfect as it could possibly be. With a lot of classics slipped in to show how the artists moved forward, there are also some new songs used for great effect as well as still showing that the artists are still growing.

Overall, this film has a lot of elements that will appeal to a wide audiance even if you don’t have any particular interest in the music. This is a must see for a lot of people and there will be others who will considerate it a good look, but everyone should watch this to help understand what some people go through and why it needs to change.
