DJ Khaled – Grateful Review

This release is full of big names and big tracks that make this a very entertaining listen. With DJ Khaled acting more like a  on this album, only the best tracks make the cut, and this album proves it.

The production is varied but always interesting. Every beat is energetic and works very well with the artists chosen to work on it. There may be something for everyone, but most will appeal to any listener as they are all polished and work as a full listen through as well as individual songs.

The Features on here make this project such a success. All show great skill and have great chemistry with the other artists on the songs as well as DJ Khaled. It is possible that some guests further from his comfort zone may have made some more interesting moments, but DJ Khaled has chosen most of the biggest names in Hip Hop to be a part of this release, and they don’t disappoint.

Overall, this is great for those who want to stick on an album and not use the skip button at all, leaving it to play through. DJ Khaled continues to have enormous success with his albums, but it should be noted that it is mostly down to other artists work. Not to take from Khaled’s ability to bring artists together, but most of the entertainment value is down to the features and not him shouting out during the project.

Various Artists – The Hamilton Mixtape Review

This release is incredible. Everyone knows how great the songs from Hamilton are, and letting these artists re-imagine them shows that they work as more than story telling devices in the show.

The production is great with some of the original Broadway backings used so the artists can give their own impression or interpretation of the originals. Where new songs have been created or tweaked, there are no missteps and actually helps keep the listen through fresh. This is a clever re-imagining of an already successful show and should help bring even more attention to it.

The lyricism is fantastic as Lin-Manuel crafted stunning rhymes from the original used in a lot of the tracks here. The new lines are all amazing with fantastic imagery and passion put into the messages of the songs. These tracks are put together with such a close eye on the precision of the craft that each of these feels almost brand new, despite there already being versions of a lot of them.

The selection of artists on here are fantastic. Each compliments the part they play on here in style and fits the need of the track perfectly. There are no problems at all with these features.

Overall, this is a really incredible showing of not only the talent of the artists, but how to put a release together. Lin-Manuel had a bright future after the musical release, but this will help solidify him as a future for music everywhere.

Busts Rhymes – The Return Of The Dragon (The Abstract Went On Vacation) Review

This mixtape shows that Busta Rhymes is still making great music that helped raised his profile in the first place. Without Q-Tip to help, he carries more of the burden and excels while doing so.

The production is good as it works well with Busta Rhymes style Each beat has its own feel and atmosphere which helps show the variation that Busta can work with. Maybe a few more slowed down tracks could show a higher level of diversity but the backing selection on this is fantastic overall.

The lyricism is fast paced, rapid fire and full of multi schemes. Busta shows that he has not slowed down over time and keeps his rhymes coming with barely a breath in between bars. A few different techniques could show more growth as an artist, but Rhymes has done a great job keeping his level so high after all these years.

The features all do a good job too as they show thier own skills as well as filling out the project with fresh voices. Each has a good verse which helps keep the entertainment high and keeps the project cohesive. Some singers could have had an interesting effect, but the selection on here is great.

Overall, this project is great fun to listen to and keeps Busta Rhymes in the public light. He shows his talent and shows plans to keep his momentum going.

Action Bronson – Mr Wonderful Review

This is a refreshing listen as Bronson brings his blend of wit and lyricism with some great backing beats to breath some life into a one way Hip Hop world. Bronson attempts to use his skills to show the world that Hip Hop has more than one option for the future.

The production is excellent and the minimal use of unusual noises helps the beats be a bit smoother. Each track has its own feeling and atmosphere even if the sounds used are very similar. Most of the songs are fairly subdued in backing, allowing Bronson to have more freedom for his rapping, but some more high energy elements may have helped to give the album more replay-ability.

The lyricism is fantastic and is the top point of this album. Bronson flexes his lyrical biceps and weaves imaginative tapestries that are full of description. He uses a very full range of techniques to enhance his wordplay and make an entertaining set of songs that do t have a lot to criticise in the lyrics department.

The features aren’t great as they tend to blend a lot into the background without standing out but they put in good efforts that can be enjoyed if the listener tries hard enough. If they were a bit more eclectic and did something a bit different, the album may have had a touch more diversity.

Overall, this album is very entertaining if your a fan of lyricism. However, if your looking for big party tunes, you may not find them on here.
