Termanology – Bad Decisions Review

This release shows that Termanology has grown as a man as well as a lyricist. His story telling ability on here creates a good listen through for a cautionary tale.

The production is very interesting, with a lot of unusual sounds creating a haunting and somewhat offbeat backing to Termanology’s tracks. They give off an almost off putting vibe that helps generate a good atmosphere for the content. Something a little lighter might liven things up, but that would ruin the point of an album called Bad Decisions.

The lyricism is strong throughout the whole album. Termanology flexes his verbal muscles to fill his songs with details and wordplay, helping his story feel more real to the listener. He has a solid delivery as well, but it might be exciting to see him play around with it a little more than he has in the past.

The features all do great work at building on Termanology’s messages. All the guests show what they are capable of, while simultaneously reinforcing what he is saying. With no weak picks, the only way to improve the features would be some more singers, but that might not have given the correct feel for this album as a whole.

Overall, this album is a must for Termanology fans, but it may not attract many new fans due to the content and how far it seems from most pop music. Termanology should still be pleased with this work as most hip hop heads should be able to appreciate his work on here.

Westside Gunn – Supreme Blientele Review

This release does show growth from Westside Gunn as well as a touch more versatility. There is still room to try new things and experiment a little more, but there is no doubt that Gunn is in for big success here.

The production is great, with a lot of haunting backings that Gunn excels over, as well as some softer moments to peel back a few more layers of his psyche. The only issue here is that with the delivery of the main artist, the beats sometimes overpower the lyrics and make it hard to hear. On the other hand, this does prove the backings are strong enough to stand on their own and are a good selection to work with.

The lyricism is great and Westside Gunn really shows why he is a rising star of the rap game. He has a great grasp of strong wordplay which really plays into all his songs. It would be interesting to see more changes in his flow to help make a couple of exciting moments, but his delivery works well for the lyrics he spits.

The features all do a good job of expanding the play through with fresh voices and styles. It is great to see him still working well, and having great chemistry with, his label mates, who all show their own considerable skills. The addition of a few big names in hip hop also shows how Gunn has made connections in the rap world.

Overall, this is a great release from one of the rising lyricists in hip hop. Westside Gunn should take all this experiance forward as he prepares for his first major label debut.

Slaine And Termanology – Anti-Hero Review

This release is great for both artists as they have crafted a project that plays to both their strengths. Slaine and Termanology perform to their strengths and it pays off.

The production is amazing with contributions from some top producers that go with the darker themes. With the old school scratching fitting with the veterans, helping to showcase how long they have been in the game, there is a high level of cohesion throughout the album as well. Something a little lighter could have created a more complete image of the artists, but they have spent much of their careers in the dark side of rap and it only makes sense with the way this album heads that they stay there.

The lyricism is great and both artists come off well with their own styles. Both are very individual with their flows as well as complex rhyme schemes that make this extremely entertaining. There is a lot of vulgarity used in a lot of these songs that will make this inaccessible to a lot of listeners, but the two artists have never been known to bend for the masses and shouldn’t do so now.

The features all help contribute to the cohesiveness of this album with their chemistry together. All of them show that they are also talented entertainers to the right audience and help make this album a success. Something further from their own strengths could add another dimension, but there is no doubting the selection here.

Overall, this is a great release for fans of both artists as well as anyone who enjoys the darker side of rap music. This might not be for everyone, but for those who do enjoy it, they will enjoy it immensely.

Gensu Dean – RAW Review

This is a strong album, not because it is full of pop style songs, but because it doesn’t compromise on what it is supposed to be. Gensu Dean makes the music he wants to make and his confidence shines through this release.

The production is excellent, with the tracks being smooth and cohesive without merging. There are definite breaks between songs, but with the momentum carrying all the way through. There are no issues here with the production as each track not only has its own atmosphere but contributes to the feel of the project as a whole, to great effect.

The features are all effective with a variation of flows and styles to keep a full listen through interesting. With the diversity of the different voices and styles, the tracks don’t get boring and each has a more unique feel then hearing the same thing over and over. A good selection of guests picked by Gensu Dean help keep this a great listen.

Overall, this project is a great reveal to the hip hop community of a producer who has worked hard with a lot of talent to get himself where he is. If Gensu Dean continues to make consistent music like this, he is going to become a lot more famous than he is now.

Termanology -More Politics Review

This release is a fantastic showcase of Termanology’s skills. He deftly makes songs that speak to the audience as well as explore his personal experience.

The production is great with a lot of different influences coming together to make easy flowing beats. There is plenty of variation to explore the different content while not being one long mess. Some more traditional instruments might make some more songs to appeal to a wider audience, but Termanology has a great selection here.

The lyricism is obviously great and Termanology shows why he is considered a top lyricist. His differentiation in flow and pace helps keep this interesting and cohesive. there are no issues with his performance on this and should continue in this vein.

The features do a great job of filling out the tracks. Each puts in a great verse or hook that keeps the tracks feeling fresh while showing Termanology’s connections in the rap world. There is a good balance of singing and rapping between the guests which really helps this release.

Overall, this is an entertaining and thought provoking piece of work that audiences should enjoy. Termanology has put together a release to give his point of view and should make some sales while doing it.

CZARFACE – A Fistful Of Peril Review

This project is another good showing from the members of CZARFACE. Each does their part very well which helps lead to a concise and cohesive project.

The production is fantastic with the signature CZARFACE sound coming through very clearly. The jazz influences are still present and help add a dimension to this music that a lot of new music is missing. It may not be to everyone’s taste, but it is different, edgy and very enjoyable.

The lyricism is good with the rappers using plenty of superhero references to play to the comic book style. Both Esoteric and Inspectah Deck put in the energy to fit with the fast paced album, which is thirteen tracks but last only thirty five minutes. Some more changes in flow could make a few more interesting moments, but there are no faults in the rhymes spit by the main artists.

The features help to flesh out this project and shows that not only big names help make tracks. Each of them put in good efforts and help keep the quality high on this album. A few more singers may help to expand the possibilities of this album, but may not have fitted with the style of the CZARFACE story.

Overall, this is a very fast paced and entertaining project, but may not be for everyone. On the other hand, it is definitely worth one listen to decide if the style of this group works for you.
