This mixtape is a good showing for both Dumbfoundead and battle rappers everywhere. While some of the songs miss the mark, this is still a solid project to help show that battle rappers can make good music.
The production is pretty good, with some not quite making as big a splash as might be necessary. However while a tiny handful fall slightly short, the others hit their mark exactly, working well with Dumbfoundead’s style as well as stand alone beats. Maybe something with a slower pace would show a bit more diversity, and while not perfect, this is a great start in mainstream beat picking.
The lyricism is great with Dumbfoundead showing how he became a staple name in the battle rap world. His clever lyricism works well with his imagery and shows that he can translate his rhymes to a beat with only minimal discomfort. Some changes in pace and flow could help with the variety portion, but Dumbfoundead should catch more peoples attention with this release.
The features are great as they show how other people pay attention to the battle rap world. Each puts in a good effort for their verse and shows their own skills, while challenging each other to do better. Maybe some singing could help expand the potential audience but Dumbfoundead can always explore that on any upcoming project.
Overall, this project is important for the culture the world over to help bring battle rap more to the foreground of mainstream attention. Dumbfoundead shows he has immense talent and will only improve further after this release.
This is another example of Jeezy showing how to make trap music with more of a refined polished sound that will land with a wider audiance. While there is a lot of trap influenced music right now, Jeezy shows how he helped ot kick off the movement.
The production is good as it is energetic and gritty when it needs to be while becoming softer for the more emotional stuff. While there is a lot going on in each beat, it never eclipses the artists which is a major issue in rap these days. It could be argued that a few different influences would help make a more balanced project, but this is supposed to be a total trap release, so this is not a reasonable criticism.
The lyricism is not overly complicated but still hits hard with the listener. Jeezy has a powerful delivery that accentuates his rhymes so that they are still entertaining without a huge amount of intricacy. Some more complex attempts with the raps could have improved this project, but Jeezy knows what his fans want and he fills that criteria perfectly.
The features do great jobs and help build on the work Jeezy does on the tracks. Each has great chemistry with Jeezy which helps make the tracks flow easier. A few more singers could help give another dimension to the project but would not necessarily fit with the style of beat and music.
Overall, this is a good trap offering but may not be a mainstream success. However, Jeezy has crafted a project that his fans can still enjoy and shows he is still a force to be reckoned with.
This album is a great continuation of the story as well as of the story telling ability that Ghostface posesses. While it may not have a hit songle, it does have a lot of replay ability for those who enjoy concept albums.
The production is classic RZA haunting minimalism. There is plenty of scope for content and for Ghostface to try a few different things. The beats work well with how the story flows which helps the project stay cohesive. A few more modern beats could balance the project out on the timeline more, however that would upset the atmosphere of the album and ruin the story.
The lyricism is good through this album and helps to add to the story telling element. While not overly complicated, it assists the imagery and makes it impact more on the listener. Some more rhymes with some more complexity could showcase Ghostface’s talent some more, however the way this story is told, it may have detracted from what the artists are saying.
The features all help to build this album up with the addition of thier verses. Each brings a lot of effort and a lot of great verses that add a lot to not only thier tracks, but the whole project. A few more singing features could have added another dimension to the album, but again, may not have fit with the story.
Overall, this is a great concept album that shows that not only does Ghostface have the ability to still make great albums, but that concept albums are making somewhat of a comeback after a few releases through the last few years.
This is a nice collection of the same sounding songs that do not fully show the talent on the roster. It is very unfortunate that this is not the standout label roster showcase the G.D.O.D series is intended to be. Even the head honcho, T.I, who is a very talented rapper, sounds comfortable but not excelling on every track. He still comes across as the top guy amoung the others on the tracks but he is not putting out the rhymes that we all know he is capable of, even with the double time flow.
The lyrics are not strong on this album. T.I shows what he can do but it comes across as he is not really trying and a couple of others, Trae Tha Truth and Young Dro, do quite well on the tracks they are on. The others however come across as very similar and non-distinguishable. B.o.B does some alright work on his tracks but even Iggy Azalea comes across as mediocre on the track she appears on.
The production is good, but needs more variation. Although done by different producers, they come across as almost the same. Mostly trap based beats, they all seem to follow a generic formula and pattern that doesn’t create a very entertaining atmosphere.
One of the good things going for the project is the energy that goes into it. A majority, if not all, of the tracks have a lot of energy and that is one of the only positive things about this project that could have been so very promising.
Overall, this does not live up to its potential at all but can provide a couple of good songs to use, possibly as some sort of workout mix for when you go to the gym.
