This project is way back classic Snoop. Everything about this is West Coast magic that shows that the title is totally correct and that Snoop is still a force to be reckoned with.
The production is great with plenty of scope for the content. Each beat is individual but with plenty of West Coast flavour to take it back to those old days. With the goal in mind to show that Snoop never left his roots, there are no issues with this release.
The lyricism is even more classic Snoop with his legendary flow lifting this to new heights. His rhymes might not be the most complex, but they have passion and a unique delivery to help increase the entertainment value. There are no issues with the performance from Snoop on this.
The features are amazing and help keep the West Coast flavour alive. Each puts in a good effort and shows their own skills, while having great chemistry with the main artist. The selection make the perfect atmosphere and could not be improved in any major fashion.
Overall, this is an enjoyable and entertaining mix of currant talent and old school feels that makes a great album. Snoop Dogg should be happy and proud of what he has put out here.
This album has some highlights in it, but misses enough steps that it isn’t cohesive all the way through. The length of the project overall means there are a lot of similarities in the tracks.
The production is good most of the way through and helps give it that classic west coast feel. There is plenty of atmosphere in the tracks, but there are a few instances where there are similar sounding songs on the same album. A shorter tracklist could have helped to make this project sound more organic and fluid.
The lyricism is classic Snoop with some good wordplay and flow, but sometimes lacking in substance. While a lot of the tracks are entertaining, there is a lot of cross over between the subject on some of the tracks. A little variation can go a long way.
The features are good as they help to break up the sound of just one voice saying similar things. While they may rap about similar subject matter, it helps to have a different feel from different guests to show Snoop still has connections.
Overall, if you condensed this down from twenty tracks to a more manageable number, this would be great. However at its current length, it can be work to listen to.
This project is a great listen for that throwback feel as well as some classic West Coast feel. Both Snoop and Daz do exactly what made them famous in the first place and make great music from their era.
The production is funky and bouncy which helps give the whole project a fantastic level of energy while keeping the laid back feel that makes the project cohesive. Each song has the same lifting vibes without sounding the same and remaining individual. Maybe some songs with a more diverse feels could make a more complete project but the point of the album is to show the chemistry between two cousins, which it does.
The lyricism is good but not overly complex. Both the main artists show they can be clever with their rhymes without it going over the listeners head which is good for those listening while enjoying a certain substance that is a central theme to Snoop especially.
The features are great as they have the same chemistry as the main artists do. They all help to keep the project cohesive while bringing great attributes to the tracks they are on. Maybe some more varied guests could have made a few more interesting moments, but there is no doubt the selection on here is great.
Overall, this project is fantastic and while some of the songs are recycled, they work well together as a tracklist. Hopefully both Snoop and Daz will keep this momentum going into the next projects they do.
This is an interesting album from Snoop Dogg as it comes across as more commercially viable and much less street than his previous endeavours. This is most likely because he has more of a role trying to stop the violence He use to indulge in.
The production is some of the best in the game right now. Pharrell does a great job handling the beats to keep them light and enjoyable. This may not be more enjoyable to fans of Snoop’s older music, but it is definately a good step forward for Snoop to remain a prominent figure and move Hip Hop in a more positive direction.
The lyricism is alright. It is not complex or complicated but laid back and easy to enjoy. Snoop utilises his unique style to make some songs that can be enjoyed by a wide range of people. His use of autotune is far too frequent and detracts from his rapping ability, but are still accessible to the wide audiance.
The features are great and add a level of diversity to the album. All bring good performances while most bring a radio friendly side that adds a softer dimension than the listener is used to hearing from Snoop Dogg. That being said, more features from Snoops younger days could add a higher level of cohesion but there is no doubt the features on this project are good choices.
Overall, this album is a positive step forward for Hip Hop as well as Snoop Dogg. He is definately stepping further from his gritty street roots but into a more positive light and hopefully Hip Hop will follow from the darker side.
This is a good mixtape to let the world know that Kurupt is still very lyrical and can still make good music. A lot of the tracks are well trodden content but Kurupt keeps it entertaining and it has a lot of re-play value. And with a Kendrick Lamar song on the end dedicated to Kurupt helps to solidify the latter as a legend.
The production is good and is reminiscent of the G-Funk era of Hip Hop. It keeps things bouncy and energetic while being engaging and making the listener want to keep listening. There is a range of different beats helping to be more of an open palette for Kurupt to express himself.
Lyrically, Kurupt is still on point and does well in his endeavours to showcase his excellent talents. His wordplay is smart and is littered throughout the tracks and helps with the imagery which is an important part of rap. Kurupt has had a long career and his abilities look like they haven’t dipped a bit.
The features are good and do well to mix with Kurupt’s own style. They help add some additional depth to the mixtape as they help to break up the monotony of one voice through a whole project and gives additional points of view to each track. A good repertoire of names helps boost how many people may sit up and take notice.
One down point of this album is DJ Julio G and his interludes. It is good he helped Kurupt put this together, but his interludes are the same each time, or very similar, and it detracts from any track he may appear on.
Overall, this is a good mixtape and can be enjoyed by most. Kurupt is his spectacular self and the beats help him to do so. If you enjoy an older style of Hip Hop, then this is definitely something to at least look into. If your looking for something entertaining and energetic, this is also the project for you.
This is a nice kickback and listen album. Its full of energetic and yet relatively relaxing music that make it easy to have as background music but that does mean that it isn’t the most capturing of music. while you may be sucked in to one or two tracks, most of it is still good but not enticing.
The production is smooth and very easy going. The beats sound like palm trees turned into music and it works very well when combined with Marcelo’s flow. They have a degree of diversity to have a chance for Marcelo to tell the sadder parts of his story, but it stays mostly in the bouncy section of Hip Hop production.
The lyricism is there, but is a bit feeble when compared to other rappers. It is more advanced than most beat heavy club tracks but less than songs with softer beats and more complex lyricism. If you can put up with waiting for the lyricism to come through, then there are some moments of glory, but it is mostly straight forward and simplistic.
The features are good but don’t add a lot to the mixtape. They shake up the monotony of Mr Marcelo but don’t add extra depth or more complex lyricism to any of the tracks. This doesn’t mean they aren’t good, but it does show that Marcelo may need to look for different features on future projects.
Overall, this is a good mixtape if your only sort of listening to it. While listening intently to it can be enjoyable, it is at its best as background music which is unfortunate for Mr Marcelo as it may not reflect his true ability.
If you want to listen to weed smoking music made by weed smokers, this is a good place to start. Both artists are known for their high flying smoking status and coming together to make this project is a good recipe for single topic songs. While it is only 8 tracks long, this helps keep the project interesting to the listener for the time it is on. This is much better than a longer project in the same vein which would be boring by the end.
The lyricism is present on all tracks and, while it may not be why you would listen to the project, it does help to keep you in tracks that are playing. B-Real comes across as the more lyrically inclined, but Berner isn’t slouching either. It all helps to tie together all the tracks under the drug theme.
The production is laid back and on a relaxed wavelength as you listen through. It may not calm you down without the use of narcotics it so advises, but in comparison to todays popular culture it is positively soothing. obviously, it picks up in places but on average it is the smokers den calmness.
The features are good and have strong ties to the theme. Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa for example are very embedded in smokers culture and go hand in hand with the narcotics that the whole mixtape is based on. This actually helps to keep the purity of a smokers project, if there is such a thing.
Overall, this is a short but cohesive project about narcotics and the effect the legalization could have on America. Increased revenue from taxes, people are more relaxed etc. etc. B-Real and Berner have done well with this and should continue with this creative streak.
This is another great throwback project from Snoop Dogg. This time he links up with Tha Dogg Pound, Daz Dillinger and Kurupt for those who arent aware, to create a G-Funk sounding project to kick back to. It recreates the G-Funk era perfectly while also incorporating their journeys and newer inspirations, like Snoops recent foray into reggae. That combined with the great chemistry the three of them has helps to create a good sense of cohesiveness.
The lyricism is present on not only every track, but by every artist. None of the three let down with their lyrics and they flow into each others style very easily. They each not only have their signature style and flows, but it is rare to find a group of individuals that sound not only different from each other but from most if not all other rap acts out there. Snoop especially shines through his diversity, being able to add the reggae flavour for a slightly different atmosphere.
The production is diverse with some freestyles over popular new tracks, some old songs they did together and some entirely new songs. The backing ranges from reggae to Hip Hop to even pop sometimes, which is a new direction for Tha Dogg Pound.
With the features only being when the trio jump on someone elses track, this helps to create a more cohesive project that showcases their talents on tracks picked for others.
Overall, this is a great project if your a fan of the rappers or a fan of the era, but it may not attract new fans as it doesn’t contain any of the factors that may make it considered “popular” but it is a fantastic project for kicking back and enjoying a great era of Hip Hop.
This is a nice throwback in Hip Hop. Everything about this mixtape is G-Funk personified. It also showcases a great reunion for Tray Deee and Goldie Loc with Snoop to reform Tha Eastsidaz and recreate some of that old magic.
Snoop shows off his signature flow and voice to instantly take you back to the days of G-Funks first arrival on the Hip Hop scene. Goldie Loc also comes heavy with the vocal tones and imagery, while Tray Deee brings his own style and skills to the table.
The production is straight G-Funk and will have you bobbing your head in no time. Every tracks beat fits with the message of the lyrics, even if sometimes it isn’t totally encapturing for the listener. However with a whole playthrough of the project, it all feels quite cohesive bar the humorous commercial which could be skipped if you just want the music.
The features are sparse but with three people jumping on a majority of tracks, that’s not a bad thing. When someone else does get on a track, they do well and blend well with the rest of the artists they are on the track with.
Overall, This is a good retro project for listeners who miss the days of West Coast projects sounding like they have come straight off the beaches with some shell casings and a grimy attitude.
