Run The Jewels – Run The Jewels 3 Review

The cover art for this release lets you know that this is rap gold and it does not disappoint in any way. This is the most cohesive the duo has ever sounded, and considering their catalogue, that is saying something.

The production is incredible with all the right emotions in the correct measures. The aggression that fuels this runs deep and helps the artists connect with the beats to aid in the performance. There are no problems with the backing selection on this and El-P should be proud of his work.

The lyricism is some of the strongest in the modern age with both members only doing fantastic jobs. There is great wordplay and schemes all over this album and it makes for very entertaining listening. Both artists have great delivery and flow to go with their rhymes, as well as having signature voices to help them stand out. Only rap genius from these two once again.

The features help keep the project on a high because of their own chemistry with both main artists. All give amazing efforts to compete with the others which helps keep energy levels high. Some singers could show another dimension, but might not be in keeping with the groups style.

Overall, this is definitely one of the top releases of the year. It is difficult to keep such a streak of great albums going, but Killer Mike and El-P may even have a few more in them if they can keep this momentum going.

Run The Jewels – Meow The Jewels Review

This album is good as an experimental piece, but when compared to the original backing, it is not nearly as good. This is obviously not intended to be a smash hit and more of a joke piece, but that actually has some very interesting moments.

The production is interesting to say the least as it is made up of noises cats make. These are used by different producers to do over the beats for the original songs. There are a lot of different methods and patterns used to create backings that are not classically enjoyable but its good to see someone trying something different, even if it is not going to be the new trend.

The lyricism is still great as it was on the original project as the lyrics remain unchanged. Both Killer Mike and El-P do the same great job and all the features are still effective. On thier next project, it will be interesting to see if they can keep up this extremely high quality of lyrical genius.

Overall, this is a different project trying to make waves by doing something no one has done before. While it is not for everyone and will mostly be seen as simply a collectible item, it is refreshing to know that there are still people trying new things.

Run The Jewels – Run The Jewels 2 Review

This is a bold and brash offering that is a great example of hard core Hip Hop too shake the masses. Both Killer Mike and El-P, who make up Run The Jewels, have done well to carry the momentum from their first great success into another project that is hard hitting and bound to be as much of a success as their last.

The lyricism is definitely present on every track and will help to draw in the crowds of Hip Hop fans who enjoy wordplay in songs. Both Killer Mike and El-P flex what they have in the lyrics department and it makes for a potent combo when it feels like they are passing the mic between them for who can be the most lyrical.

The production is fantastic by being in your face and blending the together so well that the project is easy to listen to the whole way through, even if it does feel like its trying to jump down your throat half the time. Full of unusual sounds and high tempo beats, this project is not smooth listening by any means but it is an enjoyable listen.

The features are good as they combine well with what Run The Jewels do and sound like on the track, while also promoting their own abilities. While they may not be the most well known people to feature on the album, they are good choices that don’t take anything away from the project.

Overall, this is a great album for Hip Hop lovers and is also a good introduction to the hardcore side of things for newer listeners as it is such a great example of what a top notch project sounds like. Run The Jewels should be proud of making a project that is living up to the high standards they set with their first album.
