Fabolous – Summer Shootout Review

This project is great as it shows that Fabolous is still making great music. He uses his great skill. To make these that have a summertime feel but with a winter coldness.

The production is great as it is light and breezy but with the ability to apply to any content. The beats are all individual and won’t get confused with any of the other songs. Any other style of production would not have been in the keeping with the theme.

The lyricism is fantastic with Fabolous showing how he first built his name in Hip Hop. He uses a range of techniques flawlessly to get his point across with great imagery and with plenty of impact. There are no real problems with the rhymes on this project.

The features are diverse and help to pull the project together. Each has an enjoyable verse or hook that helps push Fabolous to work harder as well as show what each of the guests are capable of. Maybe some more singers could give the project a little extra something but there are no problems with the selection here.

Overall, this project is a great showing for Fabolous and to show that the mixtape world can still crank out album worthy projects. Hopefully Fabolous can carry this momentum forward.

Kid Ink – Summer In The Winter Review

This album is exactly what the title indicates with all the summer vibes it needs to make you forget it is Winter. With plenty of DJ Mustard’s signiture style to generate energy, if your missing warmer weather then this is the project for you.

The production is fantastic with DJ Mustard using his immense talent to pour a lot of great beats into this project. Each is still individual without running together while giving scope for a range of content to be explored. There are no problems with the beat selection on this.

The lyricism is good with Kid Ink using his ability to explore different techniques to enhance his writing. He tries a few different ways to make his imagery and the impact of his words improved but they sometimes fall short of the mark. While never by much it does influence the tracks and how they play out.

The features help to flesh out the project some more so that Kid Ink does not become stale on a full listen through. Each brings in an entertainment factor that plays well with the production and helps to make the project more cohesive. A few more singers could have made a few more interesting combinations, but the guest selection here works well.

Overall, this project is great for remembering the past summers and looking forward to the future ones. Kid Ink has crafted a project that fits its objective perfectly.

Issa – This Summer Review

This is an enjoyable album to have on in the background but there is too much autotune and repetition to be really focused on. Focusing on it shows the flaws in it.

The production reflects the title with a lot of relaxed beats that are very easy to hear. The backings are very cohesive and run together smoothly without becoming one long mess. However a few more variations in beat selection could have made a more balanced project.

The lyricism is alright but there is nothing complicated about it. It is all straightforward, which works well in doses, but over the whole project, it can become boring. A few more changes in delivery could make more entertaining songs.

The features do a good job breaking up the monotony of Issa. Each puts in some good effort and makes an entertaining verse. A couple of features with a bit more singing could have helped Issa out in that department but the choice of features here are a good choice.

Overall, this is a good background mixtape but if your looking for something engaging, you may want to look elsewhere. Issa has some work to do if he wants to become a power in Hip Hop.
