This mixtape shows that Busta Rhymes is still making great music that helped raised his profile in the first place. Without Q-Tip to help, he carries more of the burden and excels while doing so.
The production is good as it works well with Busta Rhymes style Each beat has its own feel and atmosphere which helps show the variation that Busta can work with. Maybe a few more slowed down tracks could show a higher level of diversity but the backing selection on this is fantastic overall.
The lyricism is fast paced, rapid fire and full of multi schemes. Busta shows that he has not slowed down over time and keeps his rhymes coming with barely a breath in between bars. A few different techniques could show more growth as an artist, but Rhymes has done a great job keeping his level so high after all these years.
The features all do a good job too as they show thier own skills as well as filling out the project with fresh voices. Each has a good verse which helps keep the entertainment high and keeps the project cohesive. Some singers could have had an interesting effect, but the selection on here is great.
Overall, this project is great fun to listen to and keeps Busta Rhymes in the public light. He shows his talent and shows plans to keep his momentum going.
This album is full of great personnal stories that are fantastic if you have been following or are looking to follow Joe Budden as an artist. If that is not the case, then this is not the album for you as it does not contain a lot of universal songs.
The production is interesting as it is deep with a lot of space for Budden to tell his story. While they would hold thier own weight, the story telling that Budden does over the top rteally makes the tracks, even if he sounds uncomfortable over some of them. Maybe some more energetic tracks could show that he can still appeal to the mainstream, but otherwise this is a very small audiance to be aiming at.
The lyricism is obviously fantastic while combining in the story telling element. Being one quarter of the greatest groups Hip Hop has seen, he shows he knows his way around a rhyme and litters this project with not only emotional content, but creative ways of getting it across. He may want to look at how he comes across over a beat, but as he grew up freestyling this is somewhat explained. maybe somthing to look at in the future however.
The features all help take care of the hooks as Joe knows he is not the best at this part of song making. Each puts in a lot of passion to help build the cohesiveness of the project, as Budden puts so much of himself in his music. Maybve some features from other genres would help with the chorus and add another edge to the songs.
Overall, this is an enjoyable album if you understand where Joe Budden has come from and how his songs work. If not, then you may want to familiarise youself with his previous work to prepare for this.
